Availability of items

A lot of the items here at Amy Rue are handmade, like our Lumplings and pillows.  Other items I will only carry in very small quantities, so they might be gone the next time you visit!

When you see one up on the site, please know that it is a one of a kind item. In the event that an item has already sold when you go to purchase it, I will refund money immediately and email with an explanation.  I'm usually checking and changing the website several times a day,  so this would rarely happen. But just in case!

About the Lumplings:

Lumplings are all one of a kind rag dolls.  Their bodies are machine stitched together and the rest of the work is hand done. Lumplings usually feature vintage button eyes that I scrounge around for at antique markets, but some do have black plastic eyes.  I do not know if these plastic eyes would hold up to the torture of a teething toddler so I  recommend to not give Lumplings to children under age three. Lumplings aren't really intended to be toys... their desire in life is to look adorable on a shelf or tucked in with some pillows somewhere cozy.

Lumpling hides are heirloom quality mohair, pure cashmere, or soft minky. The Lumps are lumpy bumpy and never perfect, which is just how I love them.  They are usually between 8 and 11 inches tall and like to travel in small herds.

If you would like to see the Lumplings that have already been adopted, be sure to check out the Adopted Gallery Page!

Lumplings come from a non-smoking household and I hope that their new homes will be non-smoking too... 'cause we don't like stink.

For the time being I am not doing wholesale or commissions of Lumplings.

Adoption Payments are accepted using Paypal.

Lumplings in name and idea are trademarked... Please respect that!

About Amy Rue:

Blame it on Laura Ingalls Wilder.  When I was about seven I read all of the Little House books and in one of those books Laura’s mother makes her a little rag doll named Charlotte.  Charlotte had buttons for eyes and a calico dress and I wanted a rag doll so bad I couldn’t see straight!  I went to my Mama and asked if she could sew, but she just looked at me like I was crazy and said no as she scampered off with a fresh Bloody Mary.  I was determined, so I pulled out my old Holly Hobbie sewing machine that my granny had given me, but I never could get the darn thing threaded. So instead, I raided my sock drawer and stole some buttons out of Mama’s jewelry drawer.  I stuffed that sock and gave her button eyes and wrapped some fabric around her for a dress… the doll was very ugly!  But I loved her dearly.

I kept making sock dolls, but all of the new ones kept sprouting bunny ears....

For many of my adult years I have suppressed the urge to make my rag dolls... but then my husband bought something for me that I have always dreamed of having: a real sewing machine! And I can thread this one!

That first night, as my infant daughter lay sleeping in her basket next to me, I made the first 'Lumpling'.  His name is Voodoo and he is the little black and white guy you see above.  The next morning when my 4 year old son saw Voodoo it was love at first sight.. He sleeps with Voodoo and proudly shows him off to unsuspecting visitors who struggle for something nice to say about the ugly little doll.

So now we are... My thirties have stolen upon me and I find myself still deeply in love with the man that I knew was the one I was meant to have even when I was 14 years old.  We have two gorgeous children and live in a small town where everyone knows us. We run the Amy Rue site and an art site called Luna7.  My husband was a professional chef for many years, but is now working at the local television studios and loving it.  We collect art, work on our garden and paint rooms in the house whenever possible. I adore who we are. It is almost always 'we' now and not 'I' and I'm alright with that because my family is my everything.

In July of 2005 my husband, Hans, was diagnosed with stomach cancer on the day before his 33rd birthday. Our little family has been on a roller coaster ever since.  We spent almost eight weeks at MD Anderson hospital in Texas... we live in Georgia and our children remained home with relatives.  We are trying to find our new normal now and sometimes I can't sew as much as I used to.  Hans keeps a journal of his journey at http://hansrue.blogspot.com/

Along the ways and years certain things have made cozy spots in my mind… Beatrix Potter stories with all of her wonderful creatures  the month of October and the magic that it brings,  Disney World in the winter time,  tea time all the time, Fairy lights in our trees and the perfect full moon smiling down on me and my babies.
